Final Regular Season Power Rankings

-Eric Brill

The oh so painful regular season has come to an end and that means its time for an update to the power rankings.

Friendly reminder: These rankings are based on the idea of picking winners of imaginary games. For example, if the 16th ranked team were to play any of the teams ranked 17th-32nd, on a neutral field, I would predict them to win. If they played someone ranked higher, I would predict them to lose. Obviously there are exceptions but this way you know where I'm coming from on these decisions and that I'm not just grading their performances.

1) Denver Broncos: What Peyton Manning has done for this organization in a matter of ten months is nothing short of remarkable. (Previous Ranking: 7)

2) New England Patriots: This team gets really boring. Another 12+ win season, another division title, another first round bye and they're right in position for another Super Bowl run. (PR: 4)

3) Green Bay Packers: They're my pick to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. They're getting healthy at the right time and are still bitter about last year's early exit. (PR: 1)

4) Houston Texans: They picked the wrong time to cool off. (PR: 5)

5) Chicago Bears: Until the injury bug hit them, they were the best team in the NFC and had they been able to squeeze into the playoffs, they would have been dangerous. (PR: 3)

6) Atlanta Falcons: Will this finally be the year Matt Ryan wins a playoff game? (PR: 6)

7) Seattle Seahawks: They'd be a Super Bowl favorite if they didn't have to do it on the road. (PR: 13)

8) San Francisco 49ers: While I like Colin Kaepernick, I think the benching of Alex Smith may well cost them their season. (PR: 9)

9) Pittsburgh Steelers: Ben's injury turned a Super Bowl contender into unbearably mediocre. (PR: 2)

10) Baltimore Ravens: I'm really torn between my respect for Ray Lewis and my hatred for the rest of Baltimore. (PR: 14)

11) New York Giants: They pick the wrong weeks to show up. (PR: 12)

12) Washington Redskins: Best part about them making the playoffs is that their own coach had them written off at midseason. (PR: 23)

13) Minnesota Vikings: I was really hoping Blair Walsh would miss that field goal and the game would go into overtime so Adrian Peterson could get those nine extra yards. (PR: 20)

14) Dallas Cowboys: Not firing Jason Garrett is bewildering to me. That locker room has so much talent; it just needs a leader. (PR: 10)

15) Cincinnati Bengals: Does anyone actually expect this team to do anything with a playoff spot? (PR: 18)

16) Indianapolis Colts: What's that ESPN? You say no one had the Colts making the playoffs? Then what's this? (PR: 16)

17) New Orleans Saints: Sean Payton deserves more than just an extension. (PR: 8)

18) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: And the award for best 2012 draft class (through one season) goes to: the Buccaneers. Lavonte David, Doug Martin and Mark Barron will be stars for years to come. (PR: 11)

19) Carolina Panthers: I'm not sure why I enjoy seeing Cam Newton struggle so much. (PR: 27)

20) San Diego Chargers: Norv Turner should never have been hired in the first place. (PR: 17)

21) Detroit Lions: Most talented 4-12 team I've ever seen... which isn't a good thing... (PR:15)

22) Cleveland Browns: The firing of Pat Shurmur was regrettable because he had done an admirable job for two years with limited talent. That said, I still really like where this organization is headed. (PR: 21)

23) St. Louis Rams: This team showed some real vigor over the second half of the season. Just imagine what they could do if Sam Bradford actually had some weapons to use! (PR: 31)

24) Buffalo Bills: It's time to give up on the Ryan Fitzpatrick experiment and get a real quarterback. (PR: 25)

25) Miami Dolphins: Hell, if Brian Hartline can be a 1000 yard receiver, anyone can. (PR: 22)

26) Tennessee Titans: I had hopes for Jake Locker... Oh well. (PR: 24)

27) Oakland Raiders: Dear Darren McFadden, thanks for nothing. Love, a disgruntled fantasy owner. (PR: 28)

28) Philadelphia Eagles: I pity whoever the poor bastard is who ends up as this team's next coach. (PR: 19)

29) New York Jets: There is nothing good about this organization. (PR: 30)

30) Kansas City Chiefs: Has there been a worse year to hold the top pick in the draft? (PR: 26)

31) Arizona Cardinals: Why? Why Larry Fitzgerald? Why did you have to go out and sign that extension? You could have gone somewhere. Anywhere. With a quarterback! Maybe even the Steelers! Instead, we're all going to have to sit back in horror for the next five years or so and watch as your career is ruined by your lack of a capable signal caller. (PR: 29)

32) Jacksonville Jaguars: See New York Jets^ (PR: 32)
